6/5/09:
>  WAH met with Rick Hayden, Band Director at Knoch High School today.
> Ricardo felt forced into using Carlson this past year due to a commitment the Orchestra Director made with their rep. And then in the end, the OD did her own trip without them and left Rick stuck with them.  Rick really liked CCIS and wanted to use us! Hoepfully this year.
>  He likes the idea of the Louisville trip, but the PSSA tests may get in the way. He did ask his principle if he could have his kids miss the PSSA test that Thursday, maybe do it the Wednesday before, he did get a tentative yes, but he is unsure as to being positive.
>  As far as the Washington trip, he did like it, asked about leaving on Friday 4/9 in the morning instead of that evening, he wants the kids to miss a day of school, thought they would like that. I thought about maybe having them leave Friday am, travel to DC, do the Smithsonian, monuments, etc Friday afternoon/evening, go to hotel. Saturday am, parade and then Six flags that afternoon. And then come home. 
>  I know price is a big issue for them, but I think we can do our best to try and get this group to travel with us.

We are beginning to plan for next year's trip and would like to know our options for 2 weekends before we choose a date.  We are looking at March 18-19, 2016 and April 9-10, 2016.  We would plan for a four-day weekend on either of those choices.   We would like to keep the cost under $700.  
Please send me our best options that include a performance (preferably a moving one).  I am not looking for itineraries yet, just locations, highlights, and estimated cost of the trip.

Thanks for the email and I hope you are having a great summer – maybe we will finally get a chance to dry out.  I apologize for not getting back to you immediately, I was out of the country on vacation.
I don’t know when the KHS Band made their last trip to Orlando, but it is the most popular destination every year. You can perform at either Disney or Universal 365-days a year and both offer parade opportunities. This trip can be done with just two days out of school, for most groups would leave on Wednesday afternoon, travel overnight, be in the park on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and then drive home through the night on Saturday, arriving the school on Sunday afternoon.  A trip such as this is also possible for the $700 budget you mentioned.  For years, Disney has been the most popular, but Universal, because of Harry Potter, is making significant gains and their parks have the best thrill rides in Orlando for teenagers. Universal is also less expensive than Disney, especially since Disney announced price increases for 2016 Youth Groups  of more than 35%!
Please let Stephanie or me know if Orlando is not a good choice and we can discuss a multitude of other options.  By the way, Stephanie is on vacation through Wednesday of this week, but will be back at her desk on Thursday.

We are planning Disney for next year.  I'm just wondering if there are festivals / parades for either of those dates that might sway us in choosing a particular weekend.

Thanks for getting back to me and I think Disney is a wonderful choice!

Both of your dates will work, so the decision becomes whether or not you want to perform or compete.  If you are looking for a Parade Performance in one of the Disney Parks, and competition is not a requirement, then Disney’s Performing Arts On Stage (PAOS) program is the way to go, for they offer these performances 365-days a year.

If you want to compete as a parade band and / or concert or jazz band, it would be Festival Disney, for it offers competition and awards.

Both programs include a minimum of 3-days in the Disney Parks. Festival Disney packages start at about $35 more per person than the PAOS packages,  because of the added expense of the competition component.  The Festival Disney competition performances are held on Thursday, Friday & Saturday and the Awards Ceremony is on Saturday evening.

We just got back from Disney and are already thinking ahead to next season's trip.  We would like to see some ideas/figures for Chicago and Nashville. Chicago we are looking at participating in the BMO Harris Bank Magnificent Mile Lights Festival Mickey Mouse Parade on November 18, 2017.  The thought was to leave the evening of November 15th and return home after the parade.
Nashville we are looking at participating in their Christmas Parade on December 2, 2017.  The thought was to leave the evening of November 29th and return home after the parade.

>  Chicago:  depart evening 11/15, activities 11/16-11/17 (Tommy Guns, Blue Man Group, Sky Deck, etc), Magnificent Mile Mickey Mouse parade evening of 11/18, depart and arrive home on 11/19
>  Nashville:depart evening 11/29, activities 11/30-12/1 (Grand Ole Opry, Wild Horse Saloon, etc), parade 12/2 then depart for home.
>  SN is sending Amy proposals and FIs for Freeport and Butler (explaining the reason why Butler is expensive due to the required WorldStrides hotel package).
>  No one has had success contacting the Nashville Christmas Parade and there is a chance there is not even a sponsor for this event, making it not a reliable performance opportunity for any group.
> BJS suggested Toronto as an option, which falls directly within their dates, and their budget (which is not to exceed $750) 
> BJS is sending Butler's current IOG to SN to share with Amy as well.

> Next Year:  They wish to travel to Boston, no matter what, over Columbus Day weekend. They would leave Saturday morning and return on Wednesday and would like to participate in the Columbus Day Parade, but would be willing to perform elsewhere in Boston if that did not come through.  Possible side visit to Salem?  Budget:  roughly $800

> Knoch is looking for quotes for the 2019-20 season. They are interested in the Nashville Christmas Parade as well as the Manassas VA Christmas Parade.  They would like to have an idea of things to do and a cost for both by July 9th.
> From Amy: Leave so that we get there at check in on Friday.  Plan to see a show that night.  Leave late Sunday and travel over night.  We are thinking $700ish.  We would like to keep the cost down since the next year will be a Disney year.  It is also possible we may send in applications for both to see which parade we can get in.
