4/25/11  Erik responded to my email request for appointment – he wanted more info. Mailed him a packet with measuring tape. Call back in a few days for appointment

Can't believe I am asking this already, but do you have any experience coordinating trips with Festival Disney?

Absolutely, we have been working with Festival Disney since it began and have been named one of their Preferred Youth Travel Planners, an honor bestowed on the Top 40 Youth Travel Planners in the World by the Disney Corporation, in two if the past three years.  We have several groups that compete in Festival Disney each year. As a matter of fact, Brett, your Account Executive, has actually taken his own band to Festival Disney with CCIS on several occasions, including April of this year when he traveled to Orlando with more than 230 pax. Another client this year, North Allegheny HS Band, had 319 trip participants.

For the past few seasons, several of the weekends have filled to capacity, so as soon as you have dates confirmed, let Brett know and we can complete an application for your group and get your participation reserved. Thanks, Bryan

Yes, it looks like a nice thing. Our concert band is our premier ensemble here and was thinking of having them compete in Festival Disney while the Marching Band does the parade in the Magic Kingdom, and let the Jazz Band perform publicly in one of the parks.
My only worry is the cost! I was on the Festival Disney website and it is really high... I know this really rough but let us say we have 130 students going to Disney on commercial airlines (NEVER chartering a plane again - especially with Allegiant.) with the aforementioned performances, what do you think the cost might be?

It is a great event!  For anyone going to Orlando who wants to complete in a Festival, it is definitely the way to go and always our first recommendation.

A few things to keep in mind when it comes to performances for the Marching and Jazz Bands.  These in-park performances would be run through the Performing Arts On Stage Office, a separate part of Disney’s Youth Market and depending on your travel dates, these Add-On Performance Opportunities may not be available  (see attached).  This year we had several groups request these add-on performances and only one got it. Festival Disney offered Jazz and Parade opportunities this past Spring and I suspect they will do so again in 2017, so in order to practically guarantee a performance for these ensembles, I would strongly suggest you have them participate in Festival Disney.

You are correct about the rates, all of the Disney Youth Program prices have increased dramatically over the past 2 years.  For example, the Festival Disney 3-Day Standard Package has gone up more than 45% between 2015 and 2017!  Hotel rates have increased as well; although, not quite as dramatically.  I have the Disney hotel rates for 2017, but they vary from week to week, sometimes as much as $100 or more, so if you can give me the weekend you are considering, we can run some numbers.

Air fares and schedules are released no more than 11 months prior to travel, so again, depending on your dates, we can start o get some quotes.  We will also need an approximate / ball-park number of trip participants, broken down by students and adults.

Disney notes from Va Beach de-brief:
>  Talked a lot about Disney for next year.
>  They have a LOT of flexibility here with dates and days of the week - so I think this could work in their favor esp. since they are flying and want to do multiple things.
>  FLYING - They are open week of March 13, 20, or 27, 2017. They are also open to traveling from Sat. to Wed., or Wed. to Saturday/Sunday. Usually can miss 3 days of school, but new admin. could have other thoughts. He will advise.
>  About 120 students and 15 adults.
>  Marching Band HAS to march in the parade - this is non-negotiable. He said his parents would kill him if this didn't happen. 
>  Jazz would like to perform in Disney Springs - I think this is good since that doesn't have anything to do with PAOS or FD.
>  The issue is the Concert Band and Choir. Originally, he was thinking band for FD and Choir for PAOS. If they traveled early in the week, perhaps this could work out with all the new rules? If not, both could do FD - but this could mess with the marching band parade. Maybe not an issue on Mon-Wed? 
>  Last time they chartered flight - would never do that again - and trip was about $1500. He'd like it to be less than that, but worried about Disney price increases.

6/1/16:
>  BT got EM from Erik re: their Disney trip.
> admin informed them that they will be able to miss three days of school. So they are looking at a four night, five day trip (ex. Wed. morning Sunday night; Saturday morning through Wed. night; etc.). See notes above from 5/24 re: flexibility.
>  Right now they are looking at these for our top priorities: 
1. Marching Band: Parade on Main Street in the Magic Kingdom
2. Concert Choir: Public Performance in one of the parks
3. Jazz Band: Performance in Downtown Disney 
>  After the marching band is confirmed for a public performance we would ask that they consider giving the concert band a public performance.
>  He wants to know which dates in late March might work best here.
>  Since he has flexibility on dates, can we check air and look for the best option then proceed from there?

6/2/17:
>  Erik sent EM to BT - decided NOT to apply for National Concert Band festival in Indianapolis.
>  No indication of another destination - BT will follow up.
